Vuos sitten laitoin Fordiin Volvon 1030 perän, viime kesä tuli ajeltua vakiohkolla pikkulohkolla, reviteltyäkin tuli jonkun verran, ehjänä pysyi. Perässä Eatonin torsen lukko, 3.73:1 välitys ja vakiovetarit. Ton perän kestosta on monenlaisia mielipiteitä kuullut, löytyykö keltään omakohtaisia kokemuksia esim. slicksien kans?

Just to clear it up on the Salisbury VS Dana 60 bit.

Aside from the different housings (thicker and bigger on the Salisbury) And that all Salisbury's have drain plug few Dana sixty's do. There are only two major differences.

    1. The pinion nose bearing is different.

    2. Pinion flange splines are different between the two.

The remaining bearings and even the pinion seal are the same.

    Salisbury is 1.24" 24 spline. Dana is 1.287" 30 Spline, 1.5" 35 spline or 40 spline (huge)

A No Spin (drop into the carrier Detroit) from a Dana 70 will fit the Carrier on a Salisbury giving 35 spline diff at a good price.

The Carrier split on a Salisbury is the same as a Dana 60 4.0 and up, 4.56 and down.

Dana and Toyota ratios mimic each other.

mulla on volvo valpissa (3315) tuollainen salisbury 4ha akseli,, vaihdoin siihen dana 44 välityksen, erona oli tuolla aikaisemmin mainittukin pinionin poorien ero, siitä selvisi tilaamalla dana44 vääntiön, se kävi suoraan , lisäksi lautas pyörän pulttien kierteet oli eri kokoa,,, olikohan 7/16" vs 1/2" lautas pyörä liimattiin kiinni , kiinni on pysynyt vaikka reijät oli vähän väljät. volvossa on takana danan power-lock lukko, edessä ei alunperin ole lukkoa , itse laitoin sellaisen palalukon, kävi suoraan, tuon etulukon kaveriksi kyllä tarvitsee napalukot ja ohjaustehostimen.

  10. Sieltä tuli hyvää tietoa. Jos olen oikein ymmärtänyt noita eroja, niin jotkut erot 4ha vs. Dana 44 johtuu siitä, että Dana on päivittänyt akselia:

The center section of the Salisbury 4HA is the same as the center section of
the modern Dana/Spicer Model 44. The primary difference between the older
Salisbury and the modern Dana/Spicer is the spline count on the axles and
pinion yoke. Course splines (10) were all the rage in the fifties and early
sixties. Dana switched over to the more modern fine splines (28 or 31) in
the mid seventies. You should be able to buy new several different types of
limited slip differentials to fit either a 4HA or Model 44, depending on
your intended use (race, street, autocross, rock crawling etc). You will
need to provide the spline count, axle shaft diameter and gear ratio you
intend to use. So far as I know, any limited slip 4HA or Model 44
differential from the fifties through the eighties will physically fit in
    the 4HA axle housing.

Mut joo, tuolla samalla Jaguar palstalla on juttua 2ha -akselista, jotka on nykyään harvinaisia/hankalia. Ne on askeleen isompia kuin 4ha:

Here’s how you can tell them apart. Left to right, front row: Salisbury 2HA, Salisbury 4HA (actually Dana/Spicer 44, but looks and acts the same) Back row is a 4HA Powr Lok. The 2HA differential is very distinctive in that the ring gear bolts thread through a threaded flange on the inside diameter of the ring gear, instead of directly into the back of the toothed part of the gear as is done on the 4HA (and virtually all differential units, save for Toyota).

Ne on myös eri näköisiä kuin 4ha:

For reference, a 2HA cover on the left and a 4HA cover on the right. the second photo is a 4HA from a XK150 (I am NOT the person who painted it orange)

Tuo ha2 akseli saattaisi olla sama Dana 41?

  11. Jatkan tätä Salisbury selvitellyä. HA3 -akselista löytyy todella vähän infomaatiota. Ilmeisesti sitäkin oli vanhoissa Jaguareissa. Parhaan selvityksen, jonka löysin oli tämä:

Here is info that may be helpful if you need to overhaul the 3HA
rear axle in a post war 1.5 litre saloon. These axles (at least
the center section) are essentially a Spicer (Dana) 23 same as used
in Willys military Jeeps and early CJ2A Jeeps. The ring and pinion
are the same 4.88 to 1 and interchange perfectly. I ordered ring
and pinion, pinion seal, adjusting shims, and gaskets from a
vintage Jeep parts vendor and all parts matched the Jaguar. While
my differential (spider) gears were okay, my differential carrier
was cracked and I also bought one for a Jeep. Due to differences
in the Jeep/Jaguar axle shafts, the Jaguar axle shafts won’t quite
insert into the ends of the Jeep differential carrier. It is
necessary to ream the ends of the Jeep carrier a few thousandths to
match the inside diameter of the Jaguar carrier to make this part
work. It is also an otherwise perfect match to the Jaguar part.
All bearings are Timken and readily available at local auto parts
    stores.

The Land Rover Salisbury 8HA is a copy of the US Dana 60 (with some differences), manufactured by GKN in the UK (there is no such company as Salisbury Dana, but GKN and Dana have close ties AFAIK). There were a range of axles manufactured by GKN with the name "Salisbury, followed by a different model number.
    The differences were:

Salisbury has a 2 pin (6 gear) diff centre instead of 1 pin (4 gear) in the D60

Salisbury has 12mm crownwheel bolts instead of 1/2" (All Salisburies had all metric internals AFAIK)

Different pinion flange, pinion spline and pinion bearing

Thinner axle tubes to reduce weight

Salisbury only available in low pinion design (D60 high and low pinion).

The Salisbury 8HA had (generally) smaller diameter axles than the D60. Most had 24 spline 1.24" axles (note NO SALISBURIES HAD THE SMALLER 1.1" 10-spline rover axles), except for the 101 Forward Control which had 1.47" 21 spline axles (some special models also had similar axles).

Because of the extra gears/cross shaft, the diff centre of the Salisbury 8HA is actually stronger than the D60 - but this is a moot point as most people throw it away to fit an ARB. NOTE - there are some HD D60 centres that have 2 cross shafts (6 gear centre).

Salisbury 8HA's were fitted to the REAR of:

    All SIII 109" (4.7:1 ratio)

    SIII Stage 1 (3.54:1)

110 and Defender - 3.54:1 -(until recent TD5 which went back to the weak spiral bever rover/P38 diff)

Australian Military 6x6 (both rear axles - 4.7:1)

Salisbury 8HA's were fitted to the FRONT AND REAR of:

    SIII One-Ton (4.7:1)

101FC (5.57:1 ratio) - The 101 8HA had larger (more sensible) 21 spline 1.5" (approx) halfshafts and big CV joints.

Armoured SIII and 110 models (Various ratios).

The Dana 60 has a much wider range of ratios available, anything from about 3:1 to 7.17:1. The flange on the diff centre of the 3.54 and 4.7 Sals are in different locations so you must swap diff centres to swap ratios. Contrary to popular belief, to remove or replace the diff centre in a Salisbury (or D60), only a slight amount of force is needed (tyre levers to remove, soft hammer to refit) rather than spreading the casing. The carrier bearings only have a small amount of preload from the centre casing.

    So to summarise...

    Salisbury 8HA specs

    Ring gear - 9.75"

    Pinion Diameter - 1.626"

    Pinion Splines - ?

    Ring gear bolts - 12x12mm

    Tooth width - 1.437"

    Ratios available - 3.54:1 (110), 4.7:1 (Series III), 5.57:1 (101)

    Axle splines available:

    1.24" 24 spline (all others)

Can be converted to 1.31" Dana 30 spline or 1.5" Dana 35 spline (D60 and Salisbury diff side gears interchangeable). For 1.5", new stub axles (macnamara) and wheel bearings are required.
